Safety Online - Hiding Your Tracks
Your computer stores information about every website you visit. If you don't want anyone to know that you have visited these pages, you can hide your tracks by following the instructions below.
The way in which you can do this will vary depending on what software you use to look at the internet, so follow the instructions for the software you use.
If you don't know the name of the software you are using, go to the task bar near the top of your screen and select Help, then choose About.
AOL
- Click on the Settings tab on the AOL toolbar
- Click on the Toolbar option
- Tick the clear history trail and Auto complete after each time I sign off or switch screen names box
- Click on save
- Clear the history trail by pressing CTRL + H and clicking on Yes
Firefox
- Go to the task bar near the top of your screen and click on Tools
- Select Clear Private Data
- Click on Clear Private Data Now
Internet Explorer
- Go to the task bar near the top of your screen and click on Tools
- Select Internet Options
- Click on Delete Files, check the Delete all offline content box and then click on OK
- Finally, click on Clear History and then Yes
Netscape
- Go to the Edit menu and select Preferences
- Click on Navigator and choose Clear History
- Select Advanced, then Cache and click on Clear Disk Cache
Opera
- Go to the task bar near the top of your screen and click on Tools
- Select Clear Private Data
- Click on Delete
Please note: these instructions may not completely hide your website visits. The safest way to find information on the internet is to use a computer at a friend's house, at work or at a library.
