Equality Impact Assessments
Equality Impact Assessments (EIA) are an essential part of our work to:
- Eliminate discrimination
- Promote equality of opportunity
- Promote good relations between people of different backgrounds and groups
They are a legal requirement and are intended to help the Council:
- Anticipate and identify the equality consequences of new or existing functions, policies or services
- Take steps to change the policy or the ways in which it is implemented so that any possible negative consequences are either removed or minimised
A prioritised schedule for EIA completions is maintained with all existing EIA's being subject to review every three years, in addition to EIAs being conducted on all relevant new services and policies as they are developed. The Council has completed equality impact assessments on all its major services and policies.
