Naming ceremonies

A naming ceremony is a special way of celebrating the birth of your child and welcoming the new arrival into the family. It is also suitable to welcome a step child or adopted child into the family. The child can be of any age, and more than one child can be celebrated at the same ceremony.

What we provide

You can have your ceremony anywhere within the Bracknell Forest district, even if you are not a resident of the district.

All naming ceremonies have six essential sections:

  • introduction and welcome
  • reading
  • naming of the child (or children)
  • parents' promises
  • promises by mentors
  • closing words

You can also choose to add any of the following additional sections:

  • reasons for the names
  • hopes for the child’s future
  • parents' vows to each other
  • grandparents' promises
  • further readings
  • presentation of a gift to the child

A fully trained professional celebrant will conduct the ceremony which will last about 15 minutes but can take up to 30 minutes if more readings and options are included. During the ceremony a souvenir record of the ceremony is signed by parents, mentors and the celebrant.

Anyone with parental responsibility can arrange a naming ceremony for babies or children of any age.

Ceremonies can be held Monday to Sunday, including Bank Holidays.

What do I need?

The child’s birth certificate will need to be produced before a ceremony can be booked.

To book an appointment, please contact customer services on 01344 352000, between 8:30am and 4:45pm.

Your ceremony booking can be made by credit or debit card and must be paid in full at the time of booking.

Opening times

The register office is open Monday to Friday 9.30am to 4.30pm (excluding Bank Holidays).

How to find us

Our ceremonies are held at The Syrett Suite or a venue of your choice.

Our appointments to discuss the ceremony are held at Time Square, unless otherwise stated upon booking.
