Neighbourhood watch and community messaging

Neighbourhood watch and community messaging work on the principle that local communities are more aware than anyone else of what is happening in their community. It includes a variety of specialised watches to keep the community informed. This will include: horse watch, garage watch and business watch.

Residents work with the Police via a community messaging system, to warn or seek advice about local crime or crime prevention.

Community messaging is used to:

  • pass local information about criminal activity and disorder promptly
  • provide local crime and prevention advice
  • pass messages to the community from public and voluntary organisations
  • encourage closer community cooperation
