Baby Loss Awareness Week 2023

2023 marks the 21st year of Baby Loss Awareness Week.

The awareness week runs from Monday 9 October to Sunday 15 October and is an opportunity to bring together a community and give anyone touched by pregnancy and baby loss a safe and supportive space to share their experiences and feel that they are not alone.

This year Baby Loss Awareness Week has a theme of ‘Stepping Stones’. After pregnancy loss, life can take a path that was never expected. The week touches on the steps of that journey, and how they are unique to everyone.

The week also aims to share how the pregnancy and baby loss community is there for people every step of the way, during and after loss. You don’t have to navigate it alone.

Baby Loss Awareness Week culminates with the global “Wave of Light” on Sunday, 15 October. Families across the world are invited to light a candle at 7pm, and they can leave it burning for at least 1 hour as a way of remembering.

To join the virtual Wave of Light, take a photo of your candle and post it to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using #WaveOfLight.

Throughout the week, Time Square will be lit up in pink and blue. This is to show that, even as the week ends, the importance and the support still remains.

Take care of yourselves and know that we are here for you now and throughout the year. For those who may need more advice or help, we recommend the baby loss awareness website.

If you need to discuss this personal matter with a professional, we would like to make staff aware that VIVUP runs an employee assistance programme that offers support for staff. You can access Vivup by registering on their website and selecting Bracknell Forest Counselling from the drop-down list.
