Hola Mohalla 2024

Orange and blue flags waving in the wind

The Sikh festival Hola Mohalla is an annual festival, maybe the biggest event of the Sikh calendar.

It often begins on the first day of the lunar month of Chet in the Nanakshahi calendar. Hola Mohalla most often falls in March, and sometimes coincides with the Sikh New Year. This year, it will be held from Monday 25 March to Wednesday 27 March.

Hola Mohalla consists of camping out and enjoying various displays of fighting prowess and bravery, followed by kirtan, music, and poetry. The event concludes with a long, military-style procession near Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib, one of the 5 seats of temporal authority of the Sikhs.

In the UK, some Gurdwaras organise sports events which include Gatka, Sikh martial arts, tug of war, wrestling and other fun activities to build team spirit.

We’d like to wish all residents celebrating a happy Hola Mohalla.
