More than 30 photographers submitted 182 entries into the annual Parks Photo Competition, which was themed ‘Routes and Trees’ to celebrate our access to the great outdoors and mark the UN International Year of Forests 2011.
The winner of this year's competition was Anne Eckersley with her imaginative photo 'Tree Roots'. Anne said: ‘All my pictures were taken around the Look Out, usually while out dog walking. I have lived in and around Bracknell all my life, but never underestimate how lucky we are, in this borough, to have so many parks and open spaces on our doorstep. They are landscapes which change almost constantly throughout the year so I always try to carry a camera with me. After all you never know when you might find a face staring back at you from the roots of a tree!’
Second place went to David Robins for his eye-catching entry 'Lady in Red, Shepherd Meadows' and third place was given to Phil Chappell for his photo 'Route through Crowthorne Woods'. 15 other entries were also commended.
The pictures were judged by a panel which included executive member for culture, corporate services and public protection, Cllr Iain McCracken, head of exhibitions at South Hill Park, Dr. Outi Remis, Jeff Lawrence member of Bracknell Camera Club, John Deakin, chief forester at The Crown Estate and Graham Pockett, Parks and Countryside development officer at Bracknell Forest Council.
The exhibition ‘Exploring the Borough’s Routes and Trees’ takes place at the community gallery at South Hill Park from 11 February to 8 April 2012.
The theme of the 2012 Parks Photo Competition will be announced early in the New Year.
