Who makes decisions about planning applications?
Most applications are decided by planning officers who have been given delegated powers to do so under the circumstances set out in the council constitution.
There is no right of appeal against the granting of planning permission. It is therefore important that any objections or comments are voiced early in the process so that the issues can be given the fullest consideration.
How do I know my views will be taken into account?
Your views will be considered and all comments based on relevant planning considerations will be summarised in the report on the application.
How will I know the outcome of a planning application?
You can view applications and decisions on the online planning register. You can also register to track applications and receive automatic email notifications of decisions.
Delegated decisions weekly reports
You can also use the online planning register to search for delegated decisions made by the Head of Planning:
- go to the online planning register
- read and agree to the limitations and copyright notices and click on the submit button
- select the 'Weekly/Monthly Lists' section and enter the date for the relevant week - you can also filter your search by parish and ward
When an application is refused, the applicant has a right of appeal to the Planning Inspectorate. Appeals may also be made against conditions which the council has imposed on a permission and which the applicant considers unreasonable.
If you have been notified of a planning application or have submitted a comment about it, we will inform you if an appeal is made.
