Play Rangers
Play rangers work with children, local communities and Bracknell Forest Council to improve and make better use of our parks and open spaces; in particular for 8-13 year olds. We also try to encourage children and young people to get more out of their communities and to adopt a respectful attitude towards other park users and the equipment itself.
Our play rangers have arranged free activities and projects in parks and open spaces across the area. Have a look at our timetable to find out more about what's happening near you! There's no need to book - just turn up.
The sessions are aimed at 8 to 13 year olds; however if you are older and want to join us you are more than welcome. If you are younger, you can come along too but you must bring a grown up with you.
You will need to get a Fun Card. There's a short application form to fill in and then you just bring the form along to your first session and give it to the play ranger. They will give you your Fun Card.
You can get an application form at school, from the play ranger at the park or from this website. You will have your own membership number and you should bring your card along to each play session. Don't worry if you forget it but do remember your membership number as the play ranger will ask you for it.
Our aim is to increase the amount of children using parks and open spaces in the Bracknell area by offering more play opportunities. The play service will operate on an ‘open access’ principle, which means that children are free to come and go as they please; there is no charge and no registration or pre-booking is required. The sessions will take place all year round, outdoors and in all weather conditions aiming to provide a safe environment to encourage positive risk taking, the opportunity to meet new friends and to take part in projects to enhance community cohesion.
In order to satisfy those who fund The Play Ranger Services, we are obliged to keep track of general information about who uses the service, most frequented sites, age ranges of users and so on. This information also enables us to plan more effectively for future services and possibly to secure future funding.
With this in mind our Fun Card has been developed – we felt that it is also a great way to give children and young people a feeling of ownership of the service. Application forms are available from schools or from play rangers at the play sessions. Whenever your child joins the play rangers they will be asked for their unique 4 digit membership number. It doesn’t matter if they forget to bring the Fun Card as long as they know the membership number.
