Parenting early intervention programme
The misuse of drugs or alcohol can have a large impact on families. In Bracknell Forest we are fortunate to have a specific service which aims to address these issues.
The service is open to parents/carers who misuse drugs or alcohol and this is affecting their ability to parent their children. The service also works with families where the young person is misusing drugs or alcohol.
People working with this service will be supported to build resilience within the family unit and adopts a whole family approach to resolving issues.
Referrals into the service will be made by other professionals who are already working with the family and feel that additional support is needed or by the Family Focus Project.
Families will have agreed goals to work towards such as improved school attendance, do’s and don’ts around behavioural issues, reflecting on the impact of substance misuse on the children and how this may affect them in the future.

The young person’s drug and alcohol service in Bracknell Forest is for people under the age of 18 who are affected by drugs and alcohol. The young person’s substance misuse service provides young people with advice, support, and information to reduce the impact of substance misuse on individuals.
Some young people may need to access structured treatment for a period of time which will be agreed once a full assessment has been undertaken. Each individuals support needs will be different however we can offer a range of interventions which include, raising awareness of the harm that drugs and alcohol can have, the risks of long term use and the effect on physical and mental health, how to stay off drugs or alcohol once they have given up and avoiding situations which may lead them to using again.
If you’re under 18 and have a problem with drugs or alcohol then you, your parent or someone you know can call New Hope and we will give you all the help and support you need.
The young person’s substance misuse service also offers service to
- youth centres
- young people’s agencies and organisations
The services offered include
- criminal justice interventions
A referral to the young persons drug and alcohol worker can be made by:
- yourself (if you’re under 18)
- parents and carers
- children’s social care
- any other agencies

Friends and Family
If you feel your family member or friend has a problem with alcohol or drugs New Hope can help. We are a single point of contact for all drug and alcohol related issues in Bracknell Forest. We will help your loved one get all the support, help and advice they need to aid their recovery.
We also run a friends and family group set up for people who have a friend or a family member who has issues around drugs and/or alcohol. The friends and family group takes place at New Hope every Tuesday at 6 pm to 7:30 pm.
It is a confidential and free service for friends and family members of people with drug and alcohol issues. Here you will meet other people in a similar situation to yourself and have the opportunity to discuss your issues, find solutions and express your feelings with others who have an understanding of the pressures and challenges that you’re facing. You can also access support, advice and information from our professionals. Anyone can attend even if the person they are concerned about isn't in treatment with us.
If people have difficulty in accessing this service transport can be arranged on request.
