re3, the Central Berkshire waste management partnership, has produced an animation to help you learn about what you can and can’t recycle at home. The animation includes translations into several languages including Portuguese, Polish, Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi.

Blue bin for recyclingBlue bin or kerbside boxes

Plastic drink and detergent bottles, including:
Food and drinks cans
Pet food cans
Empty aerosol canisters

Sorry no microwaveable trays, yoghurt pots, tetrapacks (i.e. card type juice containers), margarine tubs, ice cream tubs, bottletops, cellophane, polystyrene, general rubbish or carrier bags - all cans and plastic bottles can go in mixed - no need to separate. Order a blue bin on line.

Kerbside boxes

All paper and card, including:
Newspapers
Telephone directories and Yellow Pages
Toilet and kitchen roll tubes
Cereal, soap powder and large cardboard boxes

Green boxes containing recyclable materials

Brown bin for garden wasteBrown bin or biodegradable sacks

All garden waste, including:
Grass clippings
Hedge trimmings
Tree prunings
Annual weeds
Leaves
Bedding plants/flowers

Sorry no brick/rubble/stone/soil, tree stumps, branches over 3 inches (7.5cm) in diameter or over 4ft (1.2m) in length, any fruit or vegetables (including peelings), general rubbish, plastic pots or trays, glass, metal or any animal wastes. Order your brown bin on line or buy your biodegradable sacks (30p each) from a local outlet.
