What is happening at Longshot Lane?
Work to refurbish the Longshot Lane civic amenity site in Bracknell started on Monday 31 March 2008.
Why is the construction work taking place?
The much needed improvements to modernise the facilities will include changing the layout of the site to improve the flow of traffic; covered areas to provide protection from the weather; improved recycling facilities and education facilities for schools and groups.
When is the work taking place?
Work started on site on 31 March and will last for 15 months. We are working to minimise disruption to residents during this time.
Will the site be closed?
There may be times when the site will have to close at short notice so we urge all residents to check before they make their journey by:

We will make sure these have the latest information about opening times.
When will the site be open?
The opening hours are:
- Weekdays: 5pm to 8pm
- Weekends and bank holidays: 8am to 8pm

Can trade waste be taken to Longshot Lane during the works?
Unfortunately the site will be closed to trade waste throughout the redevelopment work. Trade waste can be taken to alternative sites in Berkshire as follows:
- Smallmead, Island Road, Reading, RG2 0RP (off junction 11 of M4)
- White Hart Road, Spackmans Way, Chalvey, Slough, SL1 2SF.
- Stafferton Way, Braywick, Maidenhead, SL6 1AY.

What can be taken to Longshot Lane?
Details of items that can be taken to the site are listed below:
- Scrap metal
- Used engine oil
- Wood and timber
- Car batteries
- Hardcore and rubble
- Furniture
- Garden waste
- Fridges and freezers
- TVs and computers
- Fluorescent and low energy tubes
- Household batteries
- Large and small electrical items
- Foil cans & plastic bottles
- Card and paper
- Textiles and shoes
- Glass
Small quantities of asbestos, paint, household chemicals and other non-recyclable waste can also be taken to the site for safe disposal.
I can’t get to Longshot. What can the Council do to help?
The Council can collect bulky items including furniture, household electrical goods and smaller household items from your home. There is a charge for this service which is reduced for people on income support or those who qualify for state retirement pension. This service does not include garden waste or construction/demolition materials.
Where can I take my rubbish and recycling if I can’t get to Longshot Lane at these times?
Residents can use their kerbside collections or the 36 local recycling sites across the borough. Visit the Council's website for details of what is collected at the kerbside and to find out where our recycling sites are or call us on 01344 352000.
Residents can also use the new household waste recycling centre at Smallmead, Reading, just off junction 11 of the M4.
What can I take to Smallmead?
All household waste can be taken to Smallmead.
The following items can also be recycled there:
- Batteries, books & music, foil, food & drink cans,
- Glass, light bulbs, mobile phones, plastic bottles,
- Printer cartridges, shoes and textiles
- Fridges & freezers, electrical appliances, TVs & monitors
- Car batteries, paint, used engine oil.
- Scrap metal, wood & timber, card & paper, garden waste, plasterboard, tyres, soil, hardcore and rubble.
Opening times for Smallmead are:
- April-September: 8am to 8pm
- October-March: 8am to 6pm
Do I need to take any proof of residency?
No, you will only need proof of being a resident of the borough if you go in a van. You will then need to show a council tax bill or utility bill.
Are householders using vans allowed at Longshot Lane?
No – householders using vans must go to Smallmead to deposit their waste, and must take proof of address, eg, council tax bill, utility bill.
There is a 1.95m height barrier at Smallmead.
- Householders in vans under 1.95m will be able to visit Smallmead in normal opening times.
- Householders in vans over 1.95m must report to the weighbridge and will therefore be restricted to the weighbridge opening hours.
Weighbridge opening times are:
- Monday-Friday: 7.30am to 4.30pm
- Saturdays: 7.30am to 11:30am
- Sundays and Bank Holidays: closed
