
Younger Readers
- It is never too early to start! Children can join the library at any age.
- All new parents within the borough are offered the opportunity to join the Bookstart scheme for very young children.
- There are storybooks and picture books for young readers of all reading abilities
Books
- Novels and stories by favourite children's authors are available to borrow
- There are information books to help get the most out of hobbies or simply to enjoy.
- The Library Association has shortlisted children's books for both its Carnegie and Greenaway Awards.
Homework Collections
- Special collections of non-fiction books that can be borrowed for one week, instead of the usual three weeks, to help with homework topics.
- A photocopier is available in most libraries to copy from children's reference books for homework (subject to copyright restrictions).
Cassettes, Videos and DVDs
- There are stories on cassette in every children's section which can be borrowed.
- Children's videos are available at Bracknell, Ascot Heath, Binfield, Crowthorne and Whitegrove Libraries.
- DVDs are in Sandhurst, Binfield, Bracknell, Crowthorne and Whitegrove.
Events
- Every year there are summer events to look forward to including visits from well known authors and performers.
- Recent visitors have included Val Biro and Sarah Hayes
- The library runs a reading scheme for children each summer
Group Visits
- Teachers are welcome to bring their classes to visit the library.
- Please telephone Bracknell Library and book a visit with a Children's Librarian.
New Services
The children's library at Bracknell has recently been changed and now has an area set aside for very young children and a study area for older children.
Very soon there will be other services offered to children including readers clubs and homework clubs
Children are welcome to use other library services including the free internet access and to borrow CD-ROMs or music CDs
