Parks and Countryside Sites

Mrs Anna Roberts - Englemere PondThe Parks & Countryside Service manages approximately 50 parks and 30 countryside sites.

Parks

These sites are generally located in the urban areas and tend to be heavily used for recreation or for short cuts to and from shops and schools. Many of these sites contain facilities such as sports pitches and childrens play areas. They range in size from less than an acre to the 48 acre site at Lily Hill Park in Bracknell.

Countryside Sites

The Countryside Sites tend to have a more naturalistic feel to them. Many sites are woodlands, while others include river meadows and heathland. The sites are managed to maintain their high nature conservation and landscape value, often using traditional techniques such as grazing, coppicing, and hedge laying and are very popular with people wanting to get-away-from-it-all. Walkers, horse riders, dog walkers and cyclists use them throughout the year. These sites cover approximately 500 acres and range in size from less than an acre to the 84 acre site at Shepherd Meadows, Sandhurst.
