Site Allocations Development Plan Document
The council has published the Draft Submission Site Allocations Development Plan Document. Please note that the consultation period has been extended until 12 March.
Background
The Site Allocations Development Plan Document (SADPD) will ensure that the council meets the requirement identified in the adopted Core Strategy for 10,780 new homes in the borough in the period from 2006 to 2026. Based on the locational principles set out in Core Strategy Policy CS2, development at Bracknell Town Centre and on land within existing settlements is prioritised. However, the capacity of these sites is not sufficient to meet the overall requirement and so edge of settlement sites have been identified, as well as urban extensions to Bracknell and Crowthorne.
Whilst the SADPD focuses on housing development, it also proposes revisions to the defined boundaries of employment and retail areas in the borough and amends the boundaries to settlements where this is required as a result of the allocation of edge of settlement sites for housing.
Work to date
In February 2010 the council published the SADPD Participation document for consultation. This outlined 8 possible areas for extensions to existing settlements to meet the housing requirement. Over 1,300 responses were received and these informed preparation of the preferred policies and proposals, along with technical studies and updated advice from central government.
The preferred option document identified the council’s preferred sites for housing. Consultation on the preferred option took place between November 2010 and January 2011. Over 750 responses were received and these informed the preparation of the Draft Submission Document.
At its meeting of 30 November 2011, the council endorsed the Draft Submission Document and resolved to submit it together with the Proposals Map changes and all supporting documents to the Secretary of State for independent examination. As a consequence of this decision it was also agreed to publish the Draft Submission Document for a statutory period of consultation commencing on 16 January and running until 12 March 2012.
