Special guardianship

Special guardianship is one way of providing a long-term stable home to a child. Special guardians have full parental responsibility and take on legal powers until the child’s 18th birthday; but unlike adoption, the child still has a legal link to their birth parents.

If the child in question has lived in Bracknell Forest for 3 years or more, contact us and one of our social workers will visit and discuss the issue further. But if they have been living in another local authority more than three years, please contact that local authority.
