The Lexicon Employment Pathway

20 February 2017

Bracknell Regeneration Partnership (BRP) has today unveiled The Lexicon Employment Pathway, a programme to help facilitate recruitment for the new shopping and leisure venue.

The opening of The Lexicon in September 2017, will create in the region of 3,500 jobs, spanning all areas of retail and hospitality, offering a myriad of career opportunities for all.

The programme is being implemented by business engagement specialists Learning to Work, a not-for-profit organisation, to facilitate links between occupiers of The Lexicon and the world of work.

Learning to Work has already held a series of focus groups and careers business insight workshops for schools, focussing on opportunities within The Lexicon to help shape the strategy.

Simon Russian, development manager for Legal & General on behalf of the Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, says: “The opening of The Lexicon will generate a plethora of local job opportunities. We will be working with Learning to Work to ensure that everyone is able to easily access these opportunities through an online portal linking applicants direct to the retail and hospitality brands.”

In addition to accessibility, Learning to Work will also be hosting a series of careers events where people can learn more about and apply for career opportunities in retail and hospitality.

Rachael Burt, managing director for Learning to Work says: “This is a tremendous opportunity for the local community. We look forward to using our expertise and working with other local employment agencies to meet the recruitment needs of the new Lexicon occupants and to empower local people to access these opportunities.”

The programme will also include employment for all introductory sessions run by Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND).

Campbell Christie CBE, principal and chief executive, at Bracknell & Wokingham College says: “The career opportunities that The Lexicon will provide support our College Mission to enable all our learners to achieve their full potential.”

In the summer, a careers and recruitment fair will be held where retailers and restaurateurs will be on hand to answer career queries and facilitate applications.

Cllr Marc Brunel-Walker, executive member for economic development and regeneration, says: “We’re really excited about the new career opportunities The Lexicon will bring with it next year. Whether a first job, a change of role or getting back into work, there will be a number of positions available to suit all ages and experience.

“I would encourage anyone interested to take advantage of the support and advice on offer to help them secure their role in what will become the heart of the new town centre.”
