Town centre highways works - phase two
30 May 2014
The Ring, one of Bracknell Forest's most iconic roads, will be closed between High Street (west) and Easthampstead House car park from Monday, June 2, 2014, as part of the £5 million town centre highways work.
Part of Bond Way and the northern section of The Ring will closed to create a fabulous gateway to the newly regenerated town centre. There will a large public space where people can sit, relax, meet friends and generally enjoy the new town centre environment.
The closure will enable part of the road within the cordoned off area to be demolished safely and utilities put in place to service the new town centre.
The closure of The Ring will enable:
- Bond Way, near the new Waitrose store, to become a cul-de-sac. However the store will remain open and customers will still be able to access and exit the store via Bond Way.
- Drivers to exit the town centre via High Street (west), in front of the new Blue Smokehouse Grill (previously the Red Lion pub) which will carry traffic in the opposite direction.
- Access to the Council's Easthampstead House car park will change. Cars will still enter and exit the car park from The Ring but it will become two-way from the junction of Weather Way.
All businesses, offices and The Grange Hotel will remain open as usual throughout the highways work.
Helen Barnett, head of communications and marketing for Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, commented: “The highways work is a crucial part of preparing before we start construction of the regenerated town centre. We anticipate that the works will be concluded in the Autumn and that construction will commence shortly afterwards.
Cllr Marc Brunel-Walker, executive member for economic development and regeneration, said: "We know that these road works will permanently change how motorists access and exit the town centre. So, there will be prominent signage and detailed maps available to help people find their way around.”
Please bear with us during these highways works and alterations to make Bracknell a better place.
