Freedom of Information
One of the aims of the Freedom of Information Act is that public authorities should be clear and proactive about the information they make available to the public. Publication Schemes are intended to encourage organisations to publish more information and to develop a greater culture of openness.
A publication scheme must specify:
- The classes of information the Council publishes or intends to publish
- The manner in which they will be published
- Whether the information is available free of charge or on payment
All Local Government authorities needed to revise their Publication Schemes by the end of December 2008. The Council’s Publication Scheme is based on the model document provided by the Information Commissioner’s Office.
The Publication Scheme covers:
- Who we are and what we do
- What we spend and how we spend it
- What our priorities are and how we are doing
- How we make decisions
- Our policies and procedures
- Lists and registers
- The services we offer
It includes information on accessing:
- Everything we have a legal duty to publish
- Information we already publish
- Information which we will provide on request
We aim to make the majority of the information available on the website, so please follow the links provided in the Publication Scheme first of all before applying for specific information.
