The Mayor
Cllr Chris Turrell became the new mayor of the borough of Bracknell Forest at the annual meeting of the council on Wednesday, May 25.
Cllr Turrell, a councillor for Harmans Water since 2000, was elected during the mayor-making part of the meeting. The mayoress is Ms Diana Henfrey.
During the mayor-making ceremony Cllr Turrell introduced the new deputy mayor, Cllr Jennie McCracken, a ward councillor for Great Hollands South. The deputy mayor’s consort is Cllr Iain McCracken.
Cllr Turrell said: “I’m very honoured by the trust that the members of Bracknell Forest Council have placed in me. I’ll do my utmost to carry out my duties to the highest level possible.”
Cllr Turrell announced that his chosen charity for the 2011/12 municipal year would be Age Concern Bracknell Forest. ACBF runs a day centre in Forest Park, and provides various other services for old people. A programme of fund-raising events is under way.
Cllr Turrell has served on a number of council committees over the years. He is chairman of the Adult Social Care Scrutiny Panel, and is on the board of Bracknell Forest Homes. He has also been a school governor since 1998. He has also served on Bracknell Town Council since 2000.
