Gender Equality Scheme

The Council is required to produce, consult on, publish and implement a Gender Equality Scheme (GES) as part of its specific duty set out in the Equalities Act 2006. The GES details both the general and the specific parts of the Gender Equality Duty, covers how the Council will assess the impact of its current and future policies and proposes an implementation plan setting out how the Council will fulfil its general duty to promote gender equality. Promoting gender equality in Bracknell Forest will be a continuous process and will be undertaken in partnership with the wider community.

The general duty places a legal duty on the Borough Council to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination and harassment
  • To promote equality of opportunity between men and women

The Council published its Gender Equality Scheme in November 2007.
