Working at the Elections
Thank you for your interest in working at elections. In order to conduct an election we have to appoint people to some 600 jobs, ranging from helping with the issue of postal votes through working at the polling stations to the counting of votes.
If you wish to be considered for employment at future elections, please check you are able to fulfil the requirements of the job description and complete either the Non Council Employee work availability form or the Council Employee work availability form and submit it to Electoral Services together with your identification documents (non-council staff only) as mentioned in the non-council employees section below.
In addition, if you know of someone else, aged 18+, who would like to assist, please ask them to read this page and if they are interested they should submit the Non Council Employee work availability form along with the required identification documents.
Information for Non-Council Employees
Important note: Before we can consider someone for employment at the election, Section 8 of the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 requires all potential employees to provide documentary evidence to confirm their eligibility to work in the UK. Before you can be employed at elections we need to have sight of:
- A valid passport or a full birth certificate, plus,
- Proof of National Insurance number (e.g. P60, P45, payslip etc.)
We can only accept original documents. We appreciate that you may be anxious about sending the items through the post and therefore invite you to attend at our office at Easthampstead House during normal office hours.
Please note that we can only accept applications for employment from persons who are not connected to, nor will assist any political party or candidate at an election. Any appointed person must accept that if employed at either a polling station or the Count they would be consenting to working in excess of the normal maximum working hours provided for by the Working Time Directive. They must also agree to their details being stored on a computer database.
Any person employed at an election is employed by the Returning Officer and not Bracknell Forest Council. Payment for such work will be by cheque after the election.
It is a condition of employment that you are not connected to any political party or candidate in respect of any assistance you give to my office at election time. In agreeing to undertake a polling station and possibly a count appointment, you would be consenting to working in excess of the normal maximum working hours provided for by the Working Time Directive.
