December to August Voter Registration

The Register of Electors is published annually on 1 December. However, you can also register at any other time in the year by downloading the Household Voter Registration Form

You are not automatically registered even if you pay council tax. Most people register between September and November every year when we deliver the annual registration form to every address.

The Eligibilty to Vote page for information on who is eligible to be registered as a voter.

The law requires each applicant to sign the form (someone else cannot do this for them), so please download the form, complete all relevant sections and then each person applying must sign against their name in the final column. The signed document can then be sent to our office either by post or fax (01344 352810), or it can be scanned and sent via email or hand delivered.

Regulations provide for the Register of Electors to be updated on the first working day of each month. However, there is a deadline each month for the receipt of applications for inclusion in the update due to be effected the following month.

Please see the following table for Notice of Monthly Rolling Registration Deadlines 2007 to 2008 for the relevant dates by which your application must be received in order for it to be added the following month (subject to the following objection process).

If your form is completed correctly your name will be placed on a new applicant list which is then available for public inspection for 5 days during which time an objection can be raised to your name appearing on the Register of Electors for the address you give.

We will acknowledge receipt of your form and that will advise you when your name will be added to the Register of Electors (subject to the above objection process). In the event of an objection we will write to you.

Registering once an election has been called

Once an election has been called you will be able to apply by filling in the Household Voter Registration Form as above to be registered up until 11 working days before polling day. We will acknowledge all forms by 5 working days before polling day. If you do not receive this acknowledgment please contact us immediately otherwise you may not be eligible to vote.
