The Mayors Charity

The newly installed Mayor of the Borough of Bracknell Forest, Cllr Bob Wade, will be raising of funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution during his year in office. The local RNLI branch chairman, Mr Anthony Cox, and his committee have pledge their time, effort and support in promoting the various charitable events.

Cllr Wade, who took on the mayoral chains at a ceremony on May 6, hopes residents and businesses in the borough will get behind fundraising events for the charity which he and his wife, Mayoress Maggie Wade, have supported for many years.

He said: "Nowadays, the RNLI has 231 lifeboat stations around the coast of the UK and the Republic of Ireland, including four lifeboat stations on the River Thames, which are in fact the busiest.

"The RNLI has a long and distinguished history. Its crews have saved over 137,000 lives at sea, since its formation in 1824 to the present day.

"It's a very worthwhile cause and I hope that we can raise a substantial amount of money over the next 12 months. My predecessor, Cllr Bob Edger, presented his chosen charity Childline with a cheque for more than £16,500 at the end of his mayoral year. I would like to think we can do as well."

The mayoral theme for his year in office is ‘Celebrating Success in our Borough of Opportunity’.

Cllr Wade added: "During this year, there will be many opportunities to recognise, promote and celebrate our dedicated people in the voluntary sector, education, business, commerce and local government."
