Residents' surveys

Coronavirus phone survey – March 2023

In March 2023, we carried out a residents’ survey to better understand the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. 1,800 residents were asked to share their experiences.

The confidential responses were used to help us target the borough’s resources and contributed to our 3 year plan.

The aims of the survey were to get views on:

  • the impact of COVID-19 to individuals, their families and the community
  • how to respond to any future pandemic or emergency situation
  • the impact of the pandemic on health and wellbeing

The survey was carried out by the council’s independent consultation partner Public Perspectives and responses are anonymous.

The survey was mainly carried out over the phone, however some online focus groups were be used to better understand the experiences of some parts of the community.

Coronavirus phone survey - April 2021

In April 2021 we did a follow-up telephone survey and asked 1,800 residents to share their experiences about how the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to impact their lives.

The confidential responses will continue to be used to help us plan for the borough’s renewal from COVID-19 over the next 3 years.

The aims of the survey were to get views on:

  • the impact of COVID-19 to individuals, their families and the community - including the social, economic and environmental impact
  • the support residents and the borough will need to recover from the community impact of COVID-19
  • how to respond to community issues that have arisen due to the pandemic
  • the perception of the council and its support to the local community
  • environmental and travel behaviour change
  • the impact of the pandemic on health and wellbeing

The survey was carried out by the council’s independent consultation partner Public Perspectives and responses were anonymous.

According to the results of survey, Bracknell Forest residents agree the borough is a good place to live. They get on well with their neighbours, are satisfied with the way the council runs things and can influence decisions.

The survey consisted of telephone and face-to-face interviews. We asked a range of questions on how we provide services, what we do well and where we could make further improvements.

The results show:

  • 96% of respondents said that people from different backgrounds got on well together
  • 90% of respondents were satisfied with the area as a place to live up from 87% in 2014 (only 4% were dissatisfied)
  • 68% of people were satisfied with the way the council runs things; an increase of 18% since 2009 (only 10% were dissatisfied)

Residents were asked to list their favourite 3 things about living in the borough. The main things residents enjoy are:

  • the borough’s parks and countryside
  • council run sports and leisure facilities
  • highways

The survey results also show the number of people who believe the council offers value for money has increased to 62% of respondents. In 2014 it was 59% and in 2012 it was 55%.

The survey was carried out by independent company Qa Research and responses remain anonymous. The feedback will help us understand how residents view the council and what services need to be reviewed in the future.
