Marriage and civil partnership ceremonies

Roadmap

The government published a roadmap for easing lockdown restrictions.

Subject to 4 important tests being satisfied before each stage is approved, this roadmap confirms that lockdown easing will take place in steps. Prior to each step the government plans to provide one week’s notice before any restrictions are lifted.

Step 2 started from 12 April 2021

Weddings and civil partnerships (in premises that are permitted to open) should be able to go ahead with up to 15 people.

The Ceremonies Room at Time Square can only accommodate up to 6 people including the couple in order to maintain the current 2 metre social distancing measures.

We plan to reopen the Haversham Room for ceremonies on 17 May 2021 subject to the implementation of Step 3.

If you plan to marry at an approved venue please check with the venue regarding the capacity that can be accommodated to maintain the current 2 metre social distancing measures.

Step 3 - no earlier than 17 May 2021

Weddings and civil partnerships should be able to go ahead with up to 30 people.

The Haversham Room can only accommodate up to 15 people including the couple, in order to maintain the current 2 metre social distancing measures. This depends on the number of households.

Step 4 - no earlier than 21 June 2021

Weddings and civil partnerships should be able to go ahead with all limits on social contact lifted.

Who counts towards the number of guests

The number of people includes the couple and their guests. It includes children and babies. It is also subject to the current 2 metre social distancing rules in place.

Anyone working is not included as long as current social distancing rules are not compromised on the day of the ceremony.
