Last year, I celebrated a big birthday and decided I wanted to experience some things I had never done before. I had started to do more work with the Equality and Diversity group, and when we did some work to promote Pride month, I decided I would go and experience an event for myself.

I have lived in Bracknell all my life and never knew there was a Reading Pride. It is a free event run by a charity who work to promote equality and celebrate the very best of the LGBTQI+ community. They work with MyUmbrella LGBT+, a volunteer led project that raises awareness of the lesser known identities.

Their message, ‘love unites’, really does sum up their event. What an experience! Pride for me was about everyone coming together regardless of gender, sexuality, race or ethnicity. A place to celebrate who you are, acceptance and equality.

I plan on going to Reading Pride again this year, and possibly London too. If you want to increase your awareness, educate yourself and support the LGBTQI+ community, go along and show your support.
