Leisure services review
The purpose of this review is to create and deliver a sustainable, long-term plan for the borough’s leisure activities, reflecting the future needs of the borough and its residents while providing savings as part of the council’s wider financial challenge.
It means understanding and determining the council’s future role in the borough’s leisure market and its level of current and future subsidy.
It includes reviewing the council’s leisure provision and mapping what provision, services and activities exist in the borough, who provides them and how they fit together, and exploring and assessing alternative ways of providing leisure services.
We asked residents for their views at a public meeting in January 2017. There was also an invitation to clubs affected to speak to the director of environment, culture and communities.
During 2017 we carried out a market testing exercise to see if it would be possible to make substantial savings and secure investment by outsourcing the management of Bracknell Leisure Centre, Coral Reef and Downshire Golf Complex to a private sector leisure operator.
We have now completed this exercise and have decided to enter into a partnership with Everyone Active from 1 March 2018. Entering into this partnership was deemed to be the best option in order to make substantial savings, secure investment into the facilities and therefore continue to provide a quality leisure offer to our residents.
Everyone Active, part of Sports & Leisure Management Ltd, is a leading nationally recognised leisure management company. Having recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, it is the longest-established leisure provider in the UK and currently operates more than 150 facilities with 48 Local Authorities across the country.
