e-books and e-audio

What we offer

We offer hundreds of free e-books and e-audio books. You can access these on your computer, smartphone, tablet, e-reader or MP3 player, at any time. They won’t become overdue so you don’t have to worry about charges.

We subscribe to several services. Each supplier has unique titles with different download formats and licensing. There’s something to suit everyone.

You must be a member of Bracknell Forest libraries to use these services. Visit our joining the library page to find out how to become a member.

Please note that our e-books are currently not compatible with Amazon Kindle e-readers but can be accessed on the Kindle Fire through your internet browser.

Move from OverDrive to BorrowBox

From 6 January 2018, our OverDrive titles will move to BorrowBox and customers will no longer have access to OverDrive.

We hope this will make it easier for you to find what you're looking for as you will need fewer apps to access our e-books and e-audio books.

There will still be a great collection of free e-books and e-audio books for you to download, and new titles will continue to be added to BorrowBox every month.

If you have an OverDrive title downloaded on your device, you will be able to finish it to the end of the expiry date. However, if you are reading the title in your browser without having downloaded it you will lose it. For any titles that you had on request, you will need to place new holds with BorrowBox.

If you are not already registered with BorrowBox, the BorrowBox app is available from the App Store and Google Play and can be installed on your mobile devices for free. Open the app store on your device, search for Borrowbox and download.

Adobe Digital Editions

If you have been using OverDrive to read e-books on your PC or Mac computer using Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) authorized with an OverDrive account, you'll need to unauthorize ADE and then reauthorize with an Adobe ID before using BorrowBox.

1. Open Adobe Digital Editions and click on Help > Unauthorize computer.

2. Enter the password for the OverDrive account you used to authorize ADE and click Continue > Erase authorisation.

4. Close Adobe Digital Editions.

5. Visit the Adobe website and click on Sign in > Get an Adobe ID. Create an account.

6. Open Adobe Digital Editions and click on Help > Authorise computer. Enter your new Adobe ID.

When you reset the authorization, any ebooks that you previously downloaded to ADE will no longer work, as they are tied to authorization credentials that you originally used to download them.
