Premium pub and hotel operator, Young’s, will open its first site in Berkshire at The Lexicon.
Offering award-winning food and drink, Young’s will open The Bull, a grade II listed public house dating from the 1300s, which stands at the heart of the transformed town centre.
The much-loved heritage building, has undergone an extensive refurbishment to restore it to its former glory, while adding a modern twist in keeping with the new town centre.
Full of character, the pub has elements dating from the 14th, 15th and 20th centuries. It will reopen with these elements restored and with the addition of a large south-facing terrace, and private dining facilities on the first floor. A contemporary, glass fronted extension to the rear, with a 3,000 sq ft modern timber frame extension, will provide a visual and physical link between the historic building and the new town centre.
Simon Russian, development manager, Legal and General on behalf of Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, said:
We are delighted to welcome Young’s to The Lexicon, as the new occupier of The Bull. As well as being a well-known landmark, the building also plays an important role in the history of the town centre.
Victor Nicholls, assistant chief executive at Bracknell Forest Council, said:
It’s great news that The Bull will be run as a drinking and dining pub by Young’s, our residents have continually asked for The Bull to remain as a pub and so this is a much welcome announcement. I’m delighted that the refurbished pub will remain at the heart of our town centre and will be enjoyed as a pub for years to come.
Patrick Dardis, chief executive of Young’s, commented:
We are delighted to be opening our first pub in Berkshire at the heart of this exciting development. Our pubs are carefully designed to be a venue for every occasion, be it a family meal or a catch up with old friends over a few beers, and we are sure that this carefully restored building with such a rich history will be the perfect location for our high quality food and drink offer.
Young’s will join a host of other eateries at The Lexicon, including Nando’s, wagamama, Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Carluccio’s and Chimichanga.
