Bracknell Leisure Centre to benefit from a £2.8 million investment

Bracknell Leisure Centre

Sports and activity in Bracknell Forest is set to receive a multi-million pound boost thanks to the partnership between Bracknell Forest Council and its new leisure management operator, Everyone Active.

A £2.8 million refurbishment of Bracknell Leisure Centre was approved by the council, who will be working alongside Everyone Active to finance and deliver the project.

In March, the two organisations began a new 10-year partnership for Everyone Active to manage Bracknell Leisure Centre along with Coral Reef Water World and Downshire Golf Complex. As a result of the investment by the council, which was only made possible through the new agreement, the leisure centre will undergo significant improvement works to introduce a host of modernised facilities to the community.

The project will include relocating the gym and significantly increasing its size, with more than £400,000 set to be invested into state-of-the-art fitness equipment. A new group exercise studio will also be introduced and both the dry-side and pool-side changing areas will be renovated.

The centre is also due to undergo a range of aesthetic enhancements to bring it up to date. The reception and café areas will be modernised and significant improvements will be made to its external frontage to present a thoroughly contemporary appearance.

Vincent Paliczka, director of environment culture & communities, said:

"The investment agreed by council will bring significant improvements to Bracknell Leisure Centre, the scale of which we have not seen in almost thirty years and will be enjoyed by customers over many years. It would not be possible without the expertise and commercial commitment from our new leisure management partner, Everyone Active, and clearly demonstrates the value of this new partnership in bringing tangible improvements that benefit residents.”

Cllr Iain McCracken, executive member for culture, resources and public protection, said:

“Elected members are fiercely proud of the council’s leisure offer and improving facilities for residents formed a vital part of our strategy when seeking a leisure management partner. I’m delighted that customers will see the benefits of this partnership so early on in the contract and that once again Bracknell Leisure Centre will be a modern, welcoming facility where customers can improve the health and well-being of themselves and their families.”

Full details of the development are being finalised, with work expected to start on site in the summer. Customers have been notified of the works, and any groups who will be effected by the changes have been supported to find alternative venues. The centre will remain open throughout the works, with minimum disruption to visitors.

Ian Cook, Everyone Active’s regional contract manager, said:

“We are delighted to be working with Bracknell Forest Council to deliver this fantastic project. It is an ambitious development that has been made possible through our partnership, and I’m excited to see the huge impact it will have on the health and wellbeing of the community.”
