Cllr Alvin Finch was warmly welcomed as the new Mayor of Bracknell Forest at the annual council meeting on Wednesday, 23 May.
Having represented Priestwood and Garth ward since May 2003, Cllr Finch now takes over the role of first citizen from outgoing Mayor, Cllr Tina McKenzie-Boyle who raised £51,556 for The Firefighters Charity.
Cllr Finch said:
“I am proud to represent the residents of Bracknell Forest and look forward to meeting residents over the next year and hearing about how they contribute to the rich and diverse communities in Bracknell Forest.”
Cllr Finch’s appointment as Mayor comes at a time of change within the council, with councillors and many staff recently completing their move to Time Square from Easthampstead House.
The move has included the opening of a new council chamber in Time Square and Cllr Finch’s first duty as Mayor was to unveil a plaque, commemorating the opening and celebrating the council’s first 20 years serving Bracknell residents as a unitary authority.
Cllr Finch’s chosen charity for his year ahead will be Mencap. Cllr Pauline McKenzie, of College Town ward, was appointed Deputy Mayor for the year.
