Bracknell Forest Council has been selected to partner with a government backed initiative which aims to improve the quality of children’s social care and provide better outcomes for children across the country.
The What Works Centre for Children’s Social Care has identified 21 innovative councils and children’s trusts to help test new approaches to social care and ensure best practice is being shared across the social care sector.
Along with the other authorities and trusts selected in the first wave of partnerships, Bracknell Forest Council will work with the centre to:
- design and test tools and services
- produce new evidence by identifying and evaluating interventions which appear to be working
- provide advice and support to other partners
As part of the selection process, the council was asked to demonstrate how it is transforming children’s services and how its learning and commitment to outcomes could help other local authorities to improve.
As a partner for the What Works Centre, Bracknell Forest Council’s children’s services will be tasked with exploring how data analysis can be best used to help authorities make important decisions which affect the lives of children and young people.
Nikki Edwards, director of children, young people and learning, said:
“The transformation of our children's services is focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for children and families in Bracknell Forest and we are delighted that our approach has led to us being chosen as a partner of the What Works Centre.
“Data analysis plays a key part in social care decision making and the better we use the data, the more informed our choices will be – choices which have a direct impact on the lives of children, young people and families. We are really excited to be working with the centre to design and test new tools which will ultimately allow the sector to gain a greater understanding of children’s needs.”
Cllr Gareth Barnard, executive member for children, young people and learning, said:
“As a partner in this initiative, Bracknell Forest Council will be at the forefront of social care innovation, gaining valuable insights into how we can improve our services further and ensure the best possible outcomes for Bracknell Forest’s children and young people.”
