Today, 7 September 2018, marks one year since the much awaited The Lexicon opened its avenues, walkways and squares to the local community for the very first time.
Over the past 12 months, The Lexicon has received more than 16 million visits, exceeding original expectations by a million visits.
Research undertaken by Pragma Consulting Limited has also revealed that the new town centre is now the destination of choice for 66% of people living in the area.
This compares to a figure of just 17% when the same research was carried out in the opening week.
While the majority of visitors 72% are from the Borough of Bracknell, The Lexicon is also attracting shoppers from as far afield as Marlow, Farnborough, Reading, Maidenhead and Windsor.
Rob Morris, general manager at The Lexicon said:
“We are delighted with everyone’s support for and reaction to the new town centre. The positive, lively and friendly atmosphere created on opening day is still prevalent today.
"With easy access, plenty of parking, a vibrant mix of retail, dining and leisure, we will continue to do all we can to encourage even more residents to choose The Lexicon as their town centre of choice.”
Cllr Marc Brunel-Walker, executive member for economic development and regeneration, said:
“It’s been an extraordinary first year for The Lexicon and I’m so proud of how it has become the social and cultural heart of our community. To attract 16 million people in year one demonstrates just how well received it’s been by our residents and visitors and I’m so pleased that it continues to be as popular today as it was in its opening week.”
The first anniversary also heralds the signing of some fabulous new retailers and an extension of the town centre’s leisure proposition.
International fashion chain, TK Maxx, has confirmed that it will be opening a two-storey 26,500 sq ft store in Braccan Walk.
The brand new store, which is due to open in Spring 2019, will offer the hottest brand names and designer products of the season, from fashion for the entire family to accessories beauty and home, all at amazing value. With new items arriving to the store every week there will always be something new for shoppers to discover.
Deichmann, the international shoe and accessories retailer will also be coming to Braccan Walk, into what was the Brighthouse store. It is anticipated that the store will open before Christmas.
Deichmann started life as a German shoemakers workshop in 1913 and has grown exponentially since that time selling 176 million pairs of shoes across 3,989 branches across the world in 2017.
Continuing to diversify its leisure options, The Lexicon is delighted to announce that Gymfinity Kids, will be taking a 16,000 sq ft space in Princess Square.
Gymfinity Kids offers fun and exciting activities for babies to children aged 16 years, with an aim to inspire children to keep fit, improve their health, strength and wellbeing, through its gymnastics and Ninja Zone classes.
McDonalds will also be moving from its current home in Eagle Lane to a brand new concept restaurant in The High Street before Christmas.
Harry Pickering, investment manager at Schroders, on behalf of Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, says:
“We are delighted to welcome these new signings to The Lexicon. Interest in the new town centre remains buoyant and we hope to announce more signings in the coming months.
“We continue to strive towards the best combination of retailers for those who visit the centre, and are working closely with tenants to ensure that we can offer the best visitor experience. We look forward to another exciting year at The Lexicon.”
Visitors to The Lexicon over the first birthday weekend will be entertained by a host of musicians, magicians, aerial performers, stilt walkers and a bubbleologist wandering the walkways, avenues and squares to create a surprise around every corner.
Look out for the 1,000 mini cup-cakes being handed out at different locations every day and special events such as The Lexicon Proms, Tea Party and Pass the Parcel being held in Bond Square.
