Mental wellbeing at Christmas

Shadow of person and Christmas decorations on pavement

As Christmas approaches, we need to be mindful that it can be a very difficult time for some people, particularly those who experience problems with their mental wellbeing, who find it difficult to cope with life and may be feeling lonely or isolated.

If you or someone you know is feeling socially isolated or suicidal over the holiday period and need someone to talk to, here are some organisations that provide a listening ear:

  • The Samaritans - phone: 116 123 or email: jo@samaritans.org
  • Age UK Advice Line - phone: 0800 055 6112 (lines are open 8am-7pm, 365 days a year)
  • Sane Mental Health Charity - phone: 0300 304 7000 (open every day of the year from 4:30pm to 10:30pm) or visit the SANE website
  • Young people suicide prevention - phone: 0800 068 4141 or visit the website

For some simple tips to be a better listener yourself check out the Samaritans SHUSH advice here. You could save a life!
