A community lottery will launch this autumn in Bracknell Forest and so the council wants to hear from good causes and local charities interested in raising funds through the scheme.
Bracknell Forest Lottery will host its first draw this autumn to give people the chance to support local causes as well as win prizes.
Tickets will cost £1 with 60 pence going towards local good causes. That compares to just 28 pence in the pound for the National Lottery.
Through the lottery website, players will be able to select a specific good cause to support with 50 pence of their £1 going directly to that good cause. A further 10 pence of their pound will go into a general Bracknell Forest Lottery good causes fund, with the remainder being put towards prizes, operating costs and VAT.
Players who do not wish to support a specific cause can still take part in the Bracknell Forest Lottery, with 60 pence of their ticket price going into the general Bracknell Forest Lottery good causes fund, which will be distributed by the council to local groups.
Cllr Peter Heydon, Executive Member for Finance and Transformation, said:
"The Bracknell Forest Lottery will provide a great opportunity for people to help local charitable organisations they support in a different way. We are committed to continuing our existing support to local community groups and this is a way of benefiting many more of them.
“If you, or someone you know, runs, works or volunteers at a community group or a local charity that may be interested in benefitting from the scheme, then please do register interest in getting involved in the lottery at firstname.lastname@example.org"
Bracknell Forest Lottery will include a weekly draw with a jackpot of £25,000 for a matching sequence of six numbers, other prizes being £2,000, £250, £25 or three free tickets.
More information about how and where to purchase tickets will be made available over the coming weeks.
