Rough sleeping and cold weather: Bracknell Forest Severe Weather Emergency Protocol

homeless

As the nights draw in and the temperatures drop, we become even more aware of those at risk of rough sleeping in Bracknell Forest.

The Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) aims to make sure that rough sleepers have access to emergency accommodation during extreme cold weather.

Under this protocol, the council and partner agencies take prompt action to make sure all rough sleepers can access shelter.

SWEP is activated in Bracknell when the Met Office forecasts temperatures of zero degrees Celsius or below for 2 consecutive nights. Local conditions such as wind chill, rain and snow are also considered.

If you are aware of someone sleeping rough in the borough, you can share your concerns and notify us by emailing rough.sleeperteam@bracknell-forest.gov.uk.

Please provide a description of the rough sleeper where possible, their location and the time sighted. Please do not take or send photographs of people.

This year SWEP was actioned as of Monday 2 December 2019. The protocol will remain activated until the end of March 2020.
