The A322 Downshire Way has fully re-opened to the public after completion of the highway improvement scheme to deliver a dual carriageway between the Twin Bridges and Horse and Groom roundabouts.
The scheme will improve traffic flow and journey times along Downshire Way during peak periods and also contributes to the council’s current plans for development growth. The council was successful in securing over £3 million of government funding for the project in partnership with the Department for Transport.
Cllr Chris Turrell, Executive Member for Planning and Transport said:
“We’re delighted this work was able to continue during the COVID-19 pandemic and has finished on time and within budget.
“This road forms part of the important A329/A322 corridor linking the M3(J3) and M4(J10) and the scheme will make a considerable improvement to the flow of traffic along Downshire Way which has previously been a pinch-point on this important route.
“The accompanying greenway project will be completed in October, the optimum time to plant the remaining trees and hedgerows, to create a better natural environment and habitat for wildlife.
“I’d like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while the work was carried out.”
