Clarification regarding positive COVID-19 case at Brakenhale School

There is currently one positive COVID-19 case at Brakenhale School, which has resulted in a number of staff and students being identified as close contacts.

As a result, the school has had to look carefully at how it can operate safely in line with regulations around staff to pupil ratios.

In order to keep everyone as safe as possible, all Year 8 and 9 pupils (except vulnerable children) will be working from home and completing a full-time education timetable online until 20 October. This will enable safe staff to pupil ratios to be maintained for the other year groups.

This decision is based on safely opening and operating the school rather than a high volume of positive cases.

Close contacts of the positive case include pupils and staff. They have all been identified and told they must self-isolate in line with public health guidelines.

If your child attends Brakenhale and has not been contact traced and is not in years 8 or 9, then they should attend school in line with the school’s instructions. The only exception is if they are displaying any of the 3 COVID-19 symptoms or need to self-isolate due to someone in their household having symptoms or testing positive.

We would ask residents not to speculate on social media regarding the situation but to speak to the school directly if they have children at Brakenhale and have concerns. The school will continue to keep parents up-to-date directly regarding its operating and opening plans.
