Grants agreed for businesses affected by national restrictions

The council has approved support measures for businesses that were forced to close or have been significantly affected by the national restrictions over the last month.

The scheme will compensate businesses for regular fixed costs that they have continued to incur during the period of national lockdown. It is specifically to help businesses that have either had to close down completely or whose income has been significantly affected.

Businesses can apply for the period covering the national lockdown restrictions from 5 November to 2 December.

Further consideration will be given in January to what, if any, local scheme will be introduced to cover the tiered system of local restrictions, which starts on Wednesday 2 December. Our approach to this will be guided by further government information and guidance. This is expected to be published in the coming weeks.

Cllr Peter Heydon, Executive Member for Transformation and Finance, said:

“We have worked hard to get this grant in place as soon as the government confirmed the guidelines. We know that the COVID-19 pandemic has hit some local businesses hard and we are keen to support wherever we can. We urge local businesses to check online to see if they can apply for this funding.”
