Cllr Paul Bettison, OBE, Leader of Bracknell Forest Council, said:
It is an exciting time for Bracknell Forest residents, as last week we saw the opening of 3 testing sites which have begun twice weekly testing of those showing no symptoms (called ‘asymptomatic’), but who are most at risk of catching and spreading COVID-19 without knowing it.
The testing sites are currently located at Great Hollands Pavilion in Bracknell, Brownlow Hall in Warfield, and the Morgan Centre in Crowthorne.
This is a fantastic opportunity for us to help break the chain of transmission of the virus, as around one in three people who have COVID-19 have no symptoms and could be spreading it without realising. This includes essential workers who have received the COVID-19 vaccine, as the vaccine does not stop them from being able to spread the virus.
Initially these tests are for essential workers and those who have to leave home for work or volunteering. If you meet this criteria you can book an appointment on our rapid testing page or by phoning 01344 352000.
A programme to open further sites over the coming weeks is well underway and should enable us to increase capacity and offer this testing to more residents. Eligible people are continuing to be identified by the council and are being contacted directly ahead of regular testing.
If you believe that you are eligible for community testing, visit our rapid testing page for information and how to book.
I hope we are all able to look towards a more hopeful future, as the days are getting brighter and the leaves start to return to the trees. In that same spirit, The Lexicon has announced a new community art project which recognises that while the last year has been difficult for us all, there will be happier days ahead!
This project encourages residents to design handprints which will be displayed on The Lexicon Handprint Tree in Princess Square. You can read more about this project and download your template on The Lexicon website. I look forward to seeing your colourful designs once we are able to do so.
Stay safe and have a good week.
