Update from council leader - 24 March

Time Square

Cllr Paul Bettison, OBE, Leader of Bracknell Forest Council, said:

On Sunday, the nation saw a once-in-a-decade opportunity to fill out the census survey, and to celebrate we lit up the council’s Time Square office, Eagle Lane and Princess Square in purple lights, the official colour of census.

The census helps inform the provision of public services throughout the UK, such as determining the appropriate number of school places and hospital beds that are needed to properly serve their communities. Further help is available on the census 2021 website, or you can contact the census support centre on 0800 141 2021.

I am delighted that last week sole or primary carers became eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Eligible carers include those who provide close and personal care, or face-to-face support for an elderly or disabled clinically vulnerable person in the JCVI groups one to six.

Carers will be contacted in phases, starting with those carers already known to health and social care services and those who are identified as a primary carer on their GP’s register, or are eligible for a carer’s allowance. This will be a brilliant step in ensuring that the elderly and disabled clinically vulnerable people are protected further from the virus.

If you are an unpaid carer over the age of 18, who is not already known to health and care services, please contact the National Booking Service or call 119, to determine whether you are eligible to book a vaccination appointment.

I urge anyone that develops COVID-19 symptoms to self-isolate and book a PCR test on GOV.UK or by calling 119.

We are very aware that it has been an incredibly challenging year for many residents, and I would like to remind families in Bracknell Forest who have children and are struggling, that you have until Friday, 9 April to apply for support through the COVID-19 Winter Grant Scheme.

The grant scheme, which is funded by the Department for Work and Pensions, provides help with food, gas and electricity costs. It is targeted to help those families with children who have been most affected financially because of the pandemic.

Stay safe and have a good week.
