Funding has been secured to reduce congestion at the Sports Centre roundabout on the A322 Bagshot Road with work due to start in July.
The project will include adjusting the central roundabout island to provide an additional traffic lane around the junction. The highway work will also see the Crownwood / Harmans Water exit widened to improve flow from the roundabout. The traffic light sequences will then be adjusted to help improve traffic flow.
The changes will help reduce congestion during busy periods and improve the safety of various movements through and around the junction. While the improvements will assist local traffic, the new layout will also cater for additional traffic linked to future development growth.
Work is due to begin on Monday, 5 July and will last for approximately 14 weeks. So the work can be carried out as quickly and safely as possible, there will be some lane closures on the roundabout and its approaches.
From the start of the work it will be necessary to restrict lanes entering the roundabout, including along the A322 Bagshot Road. However, temporary traffic measures will be reduced after approximately three weeks and the A322 traffic flow should improve for the remainder of the project.
Cllr Chris Turrell, Executive Member for Planning and Transport, said:
“It is fantastic news that we have been granted funding to upgrade an important junction for many motorists and residents.
“This work will deliver important highway improvements to keep our roads running efficiently and contribute to improvements in air quality.
“We appreciate that there will be short-term inconvenience to residents as the work takes place, and we would like to thank our residents in advance for their patience through these necessary road restrictions.”
