A grab-a-jab service set up in The Lexicon, Bracknell has been extended by an extra 5 days to allow more people to be vaccinated.
The COVID-19 vaccination pop-up clinic, located in Union Square (near to Primark), will be in place:
- Wednesday 14 July to Saturday 17 July, between midday and 7pm
- Sunday 18 July between midday and 5pm.
Vaccinators will be on hand to vaccinate anyone over the age of 18, yet to receive their first vaccine.
No appointment is needed and no ID is required. Simply just turn up and provide your name and address.
The decision to extend the service comes only days after 360 people were vaccinated at the pop-up clinic over a four-day period (Friday 9 July to Sunday12 July).
Jeremy Mellins, a Bracknell GP and clinical director for one of the local Primary Care Networks, said:
“I would like to begin by saying a huge thank you to all the volunteers and vaccinators involved in operating the pop-up clinic in the town centre, which is helping us to vaccinate more people at their convenience.
“Whether you’re shopping in the town centre or visiting, I would recommend that you stop by to have your first jab if you haven’t already had it.
“The COVID-19 vaccination programme across Bracknell Forest continues to drive forward at pace with a large percentage of residents over the age of 40 now being vaccinated. Many double jabbed, which is great news.
“In addition, our focus is now to encourage younger people to get vaccinated, especially those aged 18 to 29, to help protect themselves, their family and friends.
“As a town and a country, the more people that are vaccinated, the greater our chances are of moving out of this pandemic in the safest possible way.”
While the driving force behind having the pop-up clinic in the town centre is to encourage the younger population in Bracknell Forest to get vaccinated, anyone over the aged of 18 who lives, works, visits or studies in the borough is eligible to use the walk-in service.
Charlotte Pavitt, Public Health Consultant for Bracknell Forest Council, said:
"It has been so good to see the great response to the pop-up vaccine site and we are looking forward to seeing more people over the coming days. Getting the vaccination is the best way to help us get back to what we all want to be doing in as safe a way as possible. I would also encourage those who have had their first jab to book in for your second after 8 weeks to give yourself the maximum protection against becoming seriously ill from the virus and the long-term issues that can result from it.”
Please note that this service will not be providing second doses. Details for second dose appointments can be found towards the end of this release.
