Bracknell Forest Council, alongside 5 other Berkshire local authorities, has won the MJ award for Digital Transformation.
This award was for projects born out of the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) Smart City Programme and was received on 17 September.
In Bracknell Forest, this has seen the creation of the Eco Rewards scheme and InDependAbility. Eco Rewards offers incentives for schools, businesses and communities in Bracknell Forest to encourage residents to choose greener travel and healthy lifestyle options.
InDependAbility is designed to enable vulnerable people to make greater use of public transport. The system detects how busy buses are and whether wheelchair spaces are being used. It then transmits this information which increases confidence amongst vulnerable users and helps bus providers to run a more efficient service.
Cllr Marc Brunel-Walker, Executive Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, said:
“This award is great recognition for the Smart City projects which position Bracknell and wider Berkshire as a centre of innovation and digital transformation. These projects invest in local residents in a range of meaningful ways, and it is great to see local organisations working together.
“The project showcases the benefits of working collaboratively across local organisations and I hope that they inspire other local partnerships to spring up nationally.”
This programme is funded by the Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) through the Government’s Local Growth Fund, the Business Rate Retention Pilot and supported by private sector partner Stantec.
It has brought together Berkshire’s local authorities to develop smart city solutions using technology developed by local businesses. The judges for the award were particularly impressed with the joined up working between the participating organisations.
