£2.3 million funding for regeneration and housing projects

house

We have secured more than £2.3 million of funding from the government’s Brownfield Land Release Fund (BLRF). This is to progress 3 local regeneration projects over the next 4 years.

The money will be used to help transform 3 pieces of disused land, creating new and affordable homes, improved transport links and community space.

We applied for funding earlier this year as part of our commitment to help provide more affordable homes for local people and further evolve the regeneration of Bracknell town centre and support the local economy.

Details of successful bids were announced on Tuesday 12 October 2021 by the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

Redevelopment of Market Street

We have secured £1.6 million to facilitate the redevelopment of Market Street in Bracknell town centre. The Cambium Partnership (made up of Bracknell Forest Council and Countryside Properties) is already progressing work to transform a piece of land on Market Street in to 169 homes, 25% of which will be affordable. This funding will help lay some of the groundwork and bring the project forward at a faster pace, subject to planning permission. It will create new homes, facilities and landscaping in a central location and will further realise the council’s overarching vision for Bracknell town centre.

The site should be finished by autumn 2024.

Redevelopment of the council depot site

We have secured £570,000 to redevelop the council depot site (off Old Bracknell Lane West). This will transform a proportion of the site into new homes, 35% of which will be affordable.

Subject to planning permission, the site should be ready to house residents by the end of 2025 and will include improved landscaping and a dedicated cycle route straight into the nearby town centre.

New site for affordable housing

We have secured £119,000 to progress a site within the borough, subject to planning approval, to provide affordable housing for local people. The funding will be used to create an access road to unlock a piece of tarmacked land, which can then be redeveloped in to 4 single-person homes and 2 wheelchair accessible homes. It is anticipated that all 6 homes will be completed and ready for occupancy by December 2022.

Cllr Paul Bettison OBE, Leader of Bracknell Forest Council, said:

“We’re delighted that all our funding bids were successful and that we will be receiving £2.3 million to progress three important regeneration projects within the borough.

“Over the next 4 years, these three projects will collectively see more than 250 new homes built on brownfield sites that were in desperate need of redevelopment. They will not only bring much-needed new homes, including affordable homes, to the borough but will see unsightly and disused pieces of land repurposed and rejuvenated.”
