Cycling for leisure

There are lots of opportunities for cycling in Bracknell Forest from off-road and mountain bike trails at managed sites such as Swinley Forest, which lies to the south of the borough, to signed routes on quiet roads and public rights of way to the north.

Many of our parks and green spaces have traffic-free cycle routes passing through them, with Lily Hill Park, Mill Park, Savernake Park and South Hill Park all connected to our cycle path network. Please note that cycling is not permitted on public footpaths or pavements.

Events

The Sky Ride Local programme offers a series of free, fun, guided bike rides around Bracknell Forest. Guided by friendly British Cycling Ride Leaders along scenic routes, they’re a great way to get out with family or friends:

Another popular cycling event is The Three Counties Cycle Ride. Organised by Bracknell Rotary Club, the event usually takes place in June and involves a charity cycle ride around Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.

Swinley Forest trails

Swinley Forest is an area of the Windsor Estate between Bracknell and Bagshot to the west of the A322. Owned and managed by The Crown Estate, it comprises 1000 hectares of mainly Scots Pine woodland.

Three cycle trails in line with the International Mountain Bike Association industry standards are available for you to enjoy in Swinley Forest. The green, blue and red cycle routes all begin from The Look Out Discovery Centre and provide a range of challenges for families cycling for fun to highly skilled riders.

Further information about the cycle trails is provided in the section about Swinley Forest on Windsor Great Park website.

Cycling clubs

Berks on Bike Mountain Bike Club is the local mountain bike club for the Bracknell Forest area with many members. Rides are based in Swinley Forest and the local area as well as further afield. The club offers 4 local rides a week and regular away rides. It welcomes riders with reasonable fitness and off-road ability and also arranges introductory and occasional family rides.

Gorrick MBC organises local mountain bike races and navigation events. All ages and abilities are catered for, from fun races through to expert categories.

Ride and Seek

The 'Ride and Seek' 6-mile circular ride uses the cycleways and shared footpath/cycleways. This is perfect for families or those not very confident about cycling on the road. Why not have a go at making your own circular route using our cycle maps.
