Governor vacancies at Warfield CE Primary School

Make a difference as a school governor

The governing board of Warfield CE Primary School has a vacancy for one foundation governor.

Are you passionate about education and would like to become one of our governors?

Foundation governors

Foundation governors are appointed by the diocese to support and develop the school's C of E foundation and Christian vision. Applicants must complete a form that is countersigned by the applicant's parish priest, local minister or church leader.

The core role of a foundation governor is the same as any other governor. Foundation governors are committed to making sure the school's Christian ethos is reflected in how the school is led and managed and meets the needs of all learners.

We are not looking for any specific skills at this time, just people who:

  • care about children and education
  • enjoy making a difference
  • like a challenge

About us

Our governing board currently has 14 governors:

  • the headteacher
  • 3 elected parent governors
  • 1 local authority governor
  • 1 staff governor
  • 2 foundation governors
  • 6 co-opted governors

We also have 2 associate members and employ a professional clerk. All our governors have their own careers and responsibilities but they dedicate time to the school when they are able.

The role

Governors play a very important role in the following ways:

  • forging close links with parents and supporting the school
  • keeping up to date with pupil progress meetings
  • challenging the school leaders on the fine detail of testing results
  • keeping a watchful eye on school spending, particularly pupil premium funding, making sure it has the desired impact

The governing board’s overriding responsibility is to work in partnership with the headteacher, who we appoint, to promote the continuous improvement in the performance of the school.

We support governors with an experienced team of expert advisers. We provide a comprehensive training programme which can be applicable in other fields of work.

Being a governor at Warfield CE Primary School can give a volunteer a deep level of personal satisfaction in helping others in their community. It also helps develop practical skills useful in all workplaces.
