The Lexicon opens for business

The Lexicon opening

Yesterday, 7 September 2017, marked a historic event in Bracknell’s history as The Lexicon opened for business for the very first time.

More than 150 local children, from primary and junior schools across the borough counted down to the historic event, which was marked with a fanfare of green, gold and silver streamers and leaf shaped confetti, cascading across the new town centre’s walkways and squares.

Simon Russian, development manager for Legal & General on behalf of Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, says:

Today represents a major landmark in Bracknell’s history. The new retail and leisure destination will create a vibrant heart to the already thriving town and provide a town centre that local residents can be proud of and a new destination for people living in the wider area.

The introduction of new quality retailers, restaurants to suit all tastes, a state-of-the art 4DX Cineworld and an evening economy will transform the town centre into an energised social hub.

Marc Brunel-Walker, executive member for economic development and regeneration says:

Today is the day that our residents, visitors and businesses have been waiting many, many years for. Bracknell Forest has always been recognised as a great place to live and work and now it has the fantastic social and cultural heart it deserves.

And while this is a momentous occasion, we are already taking steps to further our town’s complete regeneration. The Lexicon’s opening is one part of our regeneration jig-saw, work has already started to look at redeveloping the Southern Gateway, Civic Quarter and Market Square in-line with what our residents, visitors and business truly want from their town centre. Princess Square too will see new retailers and a shift of emphasis to complement the new offer in the coming months.

Visitors to The Lexicon over the launch weekend will be able to enjoy a series of interactive screens, located throughout The Lexicon, bringing a sense of the surrounding forests to the heart of the town centre. In addition, a host of artists, musicians and entertainers will be wandering the walkways, avenues and squares providing a visual spectacular for all the family.
