Shrub borders and hedges

Shrubs and borders receive a hard prune in winter.

Hedges are cut back during autumn. Where rural hedges need cutting back from the road, these will be cut by the tractor and flail during the second rural verge cut in the autumn.

All shrub and hedge cutting is subject to bird nesting restrictions from the beginning of March until the end of August. For more information on the legislation please see section 1 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

Where shrubs, borders and hedges grow next to footpaths, roads and sightlines our teams will lightly cut them back during the summer growing season so they can be safely passed by. Work during the growing season has to be kept minimal due to the Wildlife and Countryside Act. This also to allows us to prioritise grass and other safety issues during this pressured time.

Please use our grounds maintenance report form to report any issues with our shrubs borders or hedges.
